Equinox

Equinox never quite settles. At times it’s pure liquid, pours of magenta, violet, yellow, still wet-looking on the surface. Then it turns to stone, almost: grey marble veined with gold, much quieter than anything else in the piece. Elsewhere it opens up into a full spectrum of colour, thick and painterly, before flattening again into something graphic and high-contrast, closer to a screen print than to paint.

I like that none of these states get to stay for long. Just as one starts to feel settled, it gives way to its opposite, wet turns to flat, loud turns to restrained, chaos gives way to something calmer, and back again.

That’s really where the title comes from. An equinox is the one point in the year where day and night hold equal weight, right before one starts to win out over the other. This video is built the same way: balance as something you pass through, not something you land on.

Equinox (2026) is a 1:31 AI-assisted video with an original soundtrack, part of my Colors and Shapes project. Take away the end credits and the first and last frame match, so it can also run as a loop.
